Use the Duplicate File Name Check dialog box to enable duplicate file name checking, which prevents users from creating two or more files with the same name in the vault.
To display this dialog box:
Right-click File Types and select Duplicate file name settings.
- Enabling duplicate file name checking affects only future operations. Enterprise PDM does not check the vault for existing files with duplicate names.
- Duplicate file name checking is global to all folders and files in the vault. To support multiple files with the same name in different folders, consider using file templates to handle unique file naming.
- When enabled, the following operations check for duplicate file names:
- Initial check-in (including undo check-out)
- Rename
- Recover (from deleted files)
- The duplicate-name setting is ignored for items. Item IDs must always be unique.

Enables duplicate file name checking only for the specified file types (extensions). Users cannot create a file of a specified file type if it has the same name as another file of the same file type in the vault.
When you select this option, the input field is enabled. Specify the file extensions for which you are enabling duplicate file name checking, one per line and without any prefixes (such as . or *.).
