Flow/Thermal Effects Options

The Flow/Thermal Effects tab of the study properties dialog box allows you to import temperatures and loads from previous simulations in the active static, buckling, frequency, or nonlinear study.

To access the Flow/Thermal Effects options, do one of the following:
  • In the Simulation study tree, right-click the icon of a static, buckling, or nonlinear study and select Properties. Then click the Flow/Thermal Effects tab.
  • If an imported temperature or pressure load appears in the Simulation study tree, right-click its icon and select Edit Definition.

Thermal options

Specifies the source for temperatures in the active study.

  Input Temperature Considers the prescribed temperatures defined for the model.
When using this option, make sure to specify temperatures on components or shells. Specifying temperatures on the boundary only may not be practical since a temperature of zero is assumed at all other locations. If you define temperature on boundary only, you may need to create and solve a thermal study first to compute temperatures at all nodes.
  Temperatures from thermal study Reads the temperature values from a thermal study. Select a Thermal study. For a transient thermal study, select either a Time step number (to import a single temperature) or For each nonlinear time step, use temperature from corresponding time of transient thermal analysis.
  Temperatures from SOLIDWORKS Flow Simulation Reads the temperature values from a file resulting from a completed SOLIDWORKS Flow Simulation on the same configuration. Select the desired result file (*.fld) that has been generated by Flow Simulation. Model name, configuration name, and time step number associated with the specified file are displayed. This option is not available for 2D simplification studies.
  Reference temperature at zero strain Sets the temperature at which no strains exist in the model.

Fluid pressure option

Imports fluid pressure loads from a SOLIDWORKS Flow Simulation results file.

  Include fluid pressure effects from Flow Simulation Reads the pressure results from a completed SOLIDWORKS Flow Simulation results file. Select the desired result file (*.fld) that has been generated by Flow Simulation. For proper acquisition of pressure loads from Flow Simulation, the active study and the Flow Simulation study should be associated with the same configuration.
To create the *.fld file, click Flow Simulation > Tools > Export Results to Simulation . Refer to the SOLIDWORKS Flow Simulation online help for more information.
  Use reference pressure (offset) in .fld file Uses the reference pressure defined in the Flow Simulation results file.
  Define reference pressure (offset) Specifies a reference pressure directly. This pressure value is subtracted from the imported pressure values.
  Run as legacy study (exclude shear stress) Imports only the normal component of the pressure load from the Flow Simulation.
