Browsing Recent and Open Documents

You can browse recent and open documents.

You can select a document tile from the keyboard, or hover over a tile to select it with the mouse. The preview highlights in the browser, and the file path for the document appears at the top of the document browser.

You can also:

  • Click Pin  to pin the document so that it appears at the top of the Recent Documents list.
  • Click Show in Folder to open the folder that contains the document.

Browsing Recent Documents

You can browse recent documents, set options before you open a document, and drag and drop recent document tiles into other documents.

To browse recent documents:

  1. Click File > Open Recent > Browse Recent Documents or press R.
    If no documents are open, you can access Browse Recent Documents directly from the File menu.
  2. Use the arrow keys or press Tab to select a document tile from the keyboard, or hover over a tile to select it with the mouse.

    The preview highlights in the browser, and the file path for the document appears at the top of the browser.

  3. Do one of the following:
    Option Description
    Press Enter or Ctrl Open the document highlighted from the keyboard.
    Click the document Open the document under the pointer.
    Hover over a document, and click Expandrecent_docs_chevron_open.png Set options in the File Open dialog box, and click Open or Open Read-only to open the document.
    The browser or the File Open dialog box closes and the document appears in the graphics area.
  4. As indicated by the message, you can drag and drop a recent document tile into:
    • An open part to create a derived part.
    • An assembly to insert the component.
    • A drawing to create a view of the model.
    • An empty graphics area to open the file.
    • Windows Explorer to copy the file to that location.
    Click to close the message.
To close the browser without opening a document, click outside the browser or press Esc.

Browsing Open Documents

You can select an open document from the Window menu or the Open Documents browser.

To select an open document, do one of the following:

  • Click Window, and click the document that you want to open.
    To see a preview of the document and its file path, hover over the menu item for the document. The preview and file path appear in a large tile.
  • Use the Open Documents browser:
    1. Click Window > Browse Open Documents or press Ctrl + Tab.
      Keep Ctrl pressed to keep the browser open.
    2. While keeping Ctrl pressed, use the arrow keys or press Tab to select a document from the keyboard, or hover over a document to select it with the mouse.

      The preview highlights in the browser, and the file path for the document appears at the top of the browser.

    3. Press Enter or release Ctrl to open the document highlighted from the keyboard, or click to open the document under the pointer.
      The browser closes and the document appears in the graphics area.
      To close the browser without opening a document, click outside the browser or press Esc.
