Customize Tool Buttons

From the Customize dialog box, you can add tool buttons to one or more active toolbars, including the CommandManager, the Menu Bar toolbar, and your personal shortcut bars.

This includes buttons with flyout controls such as View Orientations

You can use drag and drop to:

  • Remove tool buttons from toolbars
  • Rearrange tool buttons on toolbars
  • Move tool buttons from one toolbar to another

If the Customize dialog box is not open, you need to press and hold the Alt key while you drag and drop. If the Customize dialog box is open, you do not need to press and hold the Alt key.

Display toolbars before customizing their tool buttons.

To access the Customize dialog box:

With a document open, click Tools > Customize, or right-click in the window border and select Customize.

Adding Tool Buttons to Toolbars

To add tool buttons to toolbars:

  1. With a document open, click Tools > Customize, or right-click in the window border and select Customize.
    For shortcut bars, use the keyboard shortcut to display the toolbar, right click, and click Customize.
  2. On the Commands tab, select a category.
    You can assign a button to any toolbar from any category.
  3. Under Buttons, drag a tool button to any toolbar.

Removing Tool Buttons from Toolbars

To remove tool buttons from toolbars:

  1. Do one of the following:
    • Alt+drag a tool button into the graphics area.
    • Open the Customize dialog box, then drag a tool button into the graphics area.
  2. When the pointer changes to display a red Delete indicator, drop the button to remove it from the toolbar.

Rearranging Tool Buttons on Toolbars

To rearrange tool buttons on toolbars or move them from one toolbar to another:

Do one of the following:
  • Alt+drag a tool button and drop it at a new toolbar location.
  • Open the Customize dialog box, then drag a tool button and drop it at a new toolbar location.
A black insertion indicator appears when you are over a valid location for the tool button.
