Find and Replace Annotation

Find and Replace Annotation finds and replaces text for a variety of annotation types in the currently open part, assembly, or drawing document.

Supported Annotation Types:

  • Balloon
  • Datum feature symbol
  • Datum target
  • Dimension
  • Geometric tolerance
  • Hole callout
  • Note
  • Surface finish
  • Tables. (Drawings only.) Supported types:
    • General tables
    • Hole tables. (Only header row and custom columns are editable.)
    • BOMs. (Except Excel-based.)
    • Revision tables
    • Weldment cut lists
  • Weld symbol

Finding and Replacing Annotations

To find and replace annotations:

  1. Open the document.
  2. Click Find and Replace Annotation Tool_Find_Replace_Annotations_Utilities.gif (Tools toolbar) or Tools > Find/Modify > Find and Replace Annotation.
  3. Set the PropertyManager options:
    1. For Find What, type the text to find or select it from the drop-down list if you previously typed it.
    2. For Replace With, type the replacement text or select it from the drop-down list if you previously typed it.
    3. Under Options, select options to filter the search.
    4. Under Annotation Types, select the annotation types to search, or click Select all annotations to search every annotation.
    5. Under Find/Replace Annotations, click one:
      • Find Next. Finds the next occurrence of the text and highlights it in the graphics area. The text appears under Preview. If no matching text is found, the Preview box remains empty and a message advises that the search is complete.
      • Find Previous. Selects the previously found annotation and highlights it in the graphics area.
    6. When you find the text to replace, click one:
      • Replace. Replaces the currently selected occurrence of the text.
      • Replace All. Replaces all occurrences of the text.
  4. Close the PropertyManager.
