With existing geometry, you can add a plane by referencing the entities that are present. You can use any number of references required to achieve the desired results.
To add a plane using references:
First Reference:

Select a sketch entity or another plane as the reference to position the 3D sketch plane.
- Select a relation.
If you use a 3D sketch plane to create the sketch, you cannot select that plane as a reference.
Second Reference:
- If required, select a sketch entity or another plane as the reference to position the 3D sketch plane.
- Select a relation.
- If required, select a sketch entity or another plane as the reference to position the 3D sketch plane.
- Select a relation.
- Click to close the PropertyManager and return to the Properties PropertyManager.
