When two faces come into contact, balanced internal forces develop at contact areas. You can list the internal forces that develop due to contact. Normal and friction forces develop on faces of components with No Penetration, Shrink Fit and Virtual Wall contact types. The software lists the X-, Y-, and Z-components of the specified force on the selected entities and on the entire model as well.
To list contact or friction forces, right-click
Results
and select List Result Force. Under Options, select Contact/Friction
force.
You can also click (Simulation CommandManager).

Plane,
Axis or Coordinate System |
Lists the results relative to the
selected entity. |
 |
Units |
Sets the output units. |
 |
Faces,
Edges, or Vertices |
Lists the selected
entities. |

Time
Step
|
Available only with nonlinear and
drop test. Sets the time step number at which you want to list the
reaction force. |
 |

Available for nonlinear, drop
test. Displays the time corresponding to the selected plot
step. |
|
Update |
Updates the results based on the
current selected entities. |
Contact/Friction Force
Lists the X-, Y-, and Z-components of contact (normal) and friction
forces and the resultant contact or friction forces on the selected entities and the
entire model.
Force
Type |
|
Select one of the following:
Normal
|
Lists the normal force due to contact.
|
Friction
|
Lists the friction force due to contact.
|
Total
|
This total force is the resultant of the
Normal and Friction forces calculated at each node of
the selected entities.
|
|
Response Graph |
 |
Available only with nonlinear and
drop test studies. Creates 2D time history plots for the X-, Y-, Z-
components of the contact and friction forces and the resultant
contact force on the selected entities and on the entire
model. |
Display Options
Display
resultant forces |
Select to convert the three force
vectors (X-, Y- and Z- components) to a resultant force vector. Only
the resultant force vector is displayed. |
Report Options

Save to file |
Saves the list of
contact/friction forces to an Excel spreadsheet (*.csv) or a plain text file
(*.txt). |
 |
Copy to Clipboard |
Copies the displayed results in
the clipboard. You can paste the copied data in a Microsoft Word or
Excel document. |
