Adding Welding Symbols

When your DraftSight drawing is for a project that requires welds, you can add Mechanical Toolbox welding symbols to describe the type of welds, their sizes, and other processing and finishing information.

  1. Click Welding Symbols (Mechanical Toolbox toolbar) or Mechanical Toolbox > Symbols > Welding Symbols.
  2. In the Toolbox - Welding Symbols dialog box, under Properties:
    1. For Display, select the side of the reference line where the welding information should appear.
    2. For Symbol type, select the weld symbol.
    3. Select the Finish symbol and Contour symbol.
    4. Specify the size and number, length and pitch, and angle and root of the weld.
    5. To add an all-around designation to the weld symbol, click All around.
    6. To add a field weld designation, click Field Weld.
  3. To add a description to the right of the symbol, select Abbreviation and select a standard abbreviation from a list, or enter a description in the Text field.
  4. To change settings such as the leader anchor and text style and size, click Settings.
    The Settings dialog box opens to the Welding Symbol page of Annotations.
    1. Under General, select a location for the Leader anchor.
    2. To modify the default layer, linecolor, linestyle, and lineweight for surface finish symbols, beside Layer preferences, click Change.
    3. Under Text, select a Text style from a list of DraftSight text formats.
    4. In Text size, set the value that Toolbox uses as the text size and to compute the symbol size.
    5. Click OK to return to the Toolbox - Welding Symbols dialog box.
    6. Click OK.
  5. Click OK.
  6. Click in the graphics area to locate the start point of the weld symbol leader, then click again to locate the weld symbol.
