Example: Automatically Routing Files to Different States (For SOLIDWORKS PDM Professional only)

In this example, files sent for approval are routed to different states depending on the file type.

  1. Create an initial state called Work in Progress.
  2. Create a state called Sorting State, where files live temporarily following the Submit for Approval transition.
  3. Create the Submit for Approval transition, with Work in Progress as the source state and Sorting State as the destination state.
  4. Create a state called Engineering Approval.
  5. Create a transition between Sorting State and Engineering Approval called Engineering Files:
    1. Define conditions that match only engineering documents.
    2. Select Automatic.
    3. Assign appropriate rights.
  6. Repeat to create an Office Approval state and Office Files transition for Microsoft Office documents.
  7. Save the workflow.
  8. Test the automatic transitions:
    1. Locate two files currently in the Work in Progress state - one that matches the Engineering Files conditions and the other Office Files.
    2. Change the state of both files using the Submit for Approval transition.

The workflow automatically routes the files to different target states.

Users adding or checking in files must have transition permissions on the automatic transition.
