Setting Options

Users with access to the Administration tool can access administration functions that affect their SOLIDWORKS PDM File Explorer view.

For details on the settings you can change, see SOLIDWORKS PDM Administration Tool Help:Users and Groups > User Settings.

This procedure describes how to change Explorer settings:

  • If you want SOLIDWORKS PDM to automatically check out files when you access them using the Open or Edit command
  • If you do not want to have to use Get Latest Version to ensure that you have the latest version of a file.

To view and modify Explorer settings:

  1. In SOLIDWORKS PDM File Explorer, select Tools > Administration.
  2. In the Administration tool, expand Users.
  3. Right-click your user name and click Settings.
  4. In the left pane of the Settings dialog box, click Explorer.
  5. To specify the SOLIDWORKS PDM software to automatically check out files, under Checkout files when, select one or both of the following:
    • The Open command is executed
    • The Edit command is executed
  6. To ensure that you have the latest version of referenced files:
    1. In the left pane, click Reference Dialog.
    2. Under Check out and version access controls, select Auto select reference files to get latest when checking out and Always work with latest version of files.
  7. Click OK.
  8. Close the Administration tool.
