Characteristic

On the Characteristic page, you can specify a default sub-type, inspection method, and measurement units for various dimension types that appear in the PropertyManager. These measurement units automatically apply to the current project as you capture inspection characteristics.

To access this dialog box, click Home (ribbon) and click Options > Characteristic.

You can override the default units in the PropertyManager.

Default Tolerance

These settings automatically add a default tolerance when you have not specified an explicit tolerance on an inspection drawing. Click Add or Remove to insert or delete a row.

By Range Options
By Range Displays options for tolerance ranges.
Linear Displays options for linear dimension tolerances.
Angular Displays options for angular dimension tolerances.
Greater Than Specifies the lower limit of a tolerance range.
Less Than Specifies the upper limit of a tolerance range.
+Tolerance Specifies the maximum tolerance variation.
-Tolerance Specifies the minimum tolerance variation.
By Precision Options
By Precision Displays options for precision.
Linear Displays options for linear dimension tolerances.
Angular Displays options for angular dimension tolerances.
Precision Specifies the number of decimal places in nominal dimensions.
+Tolerance Specifies the maximum tolerance variation.
-Tolerance Specifies the minimum tolerance variation.

Numbering Sequences

Balloon sequencing, balloon increment, and customized balloon numbering are independent of one another in a project. After ballooning a characteristic, you can specify the balloon sequence in the table manager or in the Characteristic PropertyManager.

Sequence Name Specifies the balloon numbering sequence name.
Starting Value Specifies the starting value in a balloon numbering sequence.
Add Adds a balloon numbering sequence.
Delete Removes the selected balloon numbering sequence.

Nominal Value Calculation of Limit Dimensions

Upper Limit / Lower Limit Displays the upper and lower values of limit dimensions.
Average of Upper Spec Limit and Lower Spec Limit Displays the value in the middle of the Upper Limit and Lower Limit. For example, if the limit dimension is .250/.750, the nominal value is .500.
