Ribbon Cable Clips

Use ribbon cable clips to restrain the cable at selected points along the route, to help you define the path of the cable.

Ribbon cable clips are required to contain the following:

  • Two route points, to identify the part as a clip component and define the entry/exit points for auto-routing.
  • An axis between the two route points, to define the centerline of the route as it passes through the clip.
  • A coordinate system to define the alignment of the ribbon cable as it passes through the clip.

To access sample clips provided with the software, on the Design Library tab of the Task Pane, browse to routing\electrical\ribbon cable.

You can use virtual clips to help you control the path of the cable without actually adding hardware to the assembly. The virtual clip does not require any solid geometry. You can exclude the virtual clip from the bill of materials.
