Mirror Components PropertyManager Step 2: Set Orientation

For each component, you specify whether to create an opposite-hand version or just a copy.

To display this page (Step 2: Set Orientation) of the Mirror Components PropertyManager:

Select a mirror plane and components in Step 1: Selections and click Next .

Orient Components

Lists the parts and subassemblies that you selected in Step 1: Selections. You can expand subassemblies to see their components.
Mirror Type Determines the rotation of axis. Select an option:

Center of bounding box

Positions the mirror so that the center of a bounding box for the selected components mirrors about the mirror plane.

Use this option for asymmetric components. It encompasses the mirrored component in a bounding box and calculates its orientation to the bounding box center.

Center of mass

Positions the mirror so that the center of mass of the selected components mirrors about the mirror plane.

Component origin

Mirrors a component instance about the component origin of the selected reference plane. This instance is not an opposite-hand version.

Dynamic Help Displays detailed help when you hover over the controls.
Orient components Adds instances of existing components. Select an item in the component list and click an orientation option.

X mirrored, Y mirrored

Mirrors the X and Y axes about the plane.

X mirrored and flipped, Y mirrored

Mirrors the X and Y axes about the plane with the X-axis direction reversed.

X mirrored, Y mirrored and flipped

Mirrors the X and Y axes about the plane with the Y-axis direction reversed.

X mirrored and flipped, Y mirrored and flipped

Mirrors the X and Y axes about the plane with the X and Y axes direction reversed.

Create opposite hand version

Creates new components that are mirror-images of existing components. Select an item in the component list and click Create opposite hand version .

The icon appears beside the item to indicate that you are creating an opposite-hand version of it. Use this option to create a true mirror of nonsymmetrical components.

Component Orientation Axis

Align to component origin

Calculates the component orientation by mirroring and flipping about the X and Y axes of the component.

Align to selection

Calculates the component orientation by mirroring and flipping the component about the local X and Y axes. In the calculation, X is parallel to the mirror plane and Y is normal to the face or plane that you select in Alignment Reference.

A second reference triad appears in the graphics area and shows the X and Y rotation axes for the seed and the mirrored component. The axes change as you click the orientation icons.

Alignment Reference

Specifies an entity to align the up axis of the orientation axes. Available when you select Align to selection.
You can select the following items as references:
  • Planes or planar faces that are perpendicular to the mirror plane.
  • Linear edges or linear sketch segments that are parallel to the mirror plane.

Click Flip alignment reference direction to flip the direction of the reference.

Synchronize movement of flexible subassembly components Synchronizes the movement of the components of the mirrored instance with the components of the seed flexible subassembly. When you move components in the seed flexible subassembly, components in the mirrored instance also move, and vice versa.
Isolate selected component Hides all the mirrored components except the mirror of the selected component, so you can more easily examine its orientation.

If you have designated to create opposite-hand versions, click Next to go to Step 3: Opposite Hand. Otherwise, click to close the PropertyManager and create the copies.
