Use the ConvertOLE command to convert OLE objects from one format to another.

To convert the data of an embedded OLE object to a different type:

  1. Type ConvertOLE at the command prompt.
  2. In the graphics area, select an OLE object and press Enter.

In the Convert dialog box, Current Type displays the application and format of the OLE object.

  4. In Object Type, select a different format.

For example, you can convert from one software version to another. This is useful if you no longer have the application that was used to create the OLE object.

Or, you can change a spreadsheet worksheet to a chart.

  5. Select Display As Icon if you want the application's icon to appear in the drawing instead of the data.
  6. Click OK.

    The OLE object is converted.

To open the data of an embedded OLE object with a different application:

  1. Type ConvertOLE at the command prompt.
  2. Specify an OLE object, then press Enter.

In the Convert dialog box, Current Type displays the application and format of the OLE object.

  3. Select Activate as to open the embedded data by using a different application that is compatible with the original object.
  4. In Object Type, select a different application.
  5. Click OK.

The OLE object opens in the other application.
