Setting Layer Preferences for Toolbox Hardware, Holes, and Symbols

Using the Toolbox - Settings dialog box, you can set layer properties to specify layers, colors, linestyles, and lineweights you want Toolbox to add to the active document. You can then assign these properties to Toolbox entity categories that are used for hardware, holes, and symbols.

This procedure describes how to set layer preferences for Toolbox bolts and screws. You use the same process to set layer preferences for other Mechanical Toolbox components.

To set layer properties for Mechanical Toolbox hardware:

  1. Click Mechanical Toolbox > Settings.
  2. On the right side of the Toolbox - Settings dialog box, click Hardware.
  3. On the left side of the dialog box, expand Bolts and Screws.
  4. Beside Layer preferences, click Change.
  5. In the Toolbox - Layer Preferences dialog box, to create a new layer, do the following:
    1. Under Layer creation details, click New.
    2. In the Toolbox - New Layer dialog box, type a Name for the new layer.
    3. Make selections for LineColor, LineStyle, and LineWeight.
    4. Click OK.
After you create the new layer, you can change these selections in the Layer creation details section of the Toolbox - Layer Preferences dialog box.
  6. To assign layer properties to entity categories for the current category of Toolbox components, under Layer Management, do the following:
    1. Select one of the following entity categories:
      • Visible Lines
      • Hidden Lines
      • Center Lines
    2. Make selections for Layer, Color, LineStyle, and LineWeight.
    3. Click Apply.
    4. To change settings that affect how the centerline is displayed, select Centerline Control and specify a value for Extension amount, whether the centerline is auto-sized, and whether it is included in end and side views.
    5. Click Apply.
  7. Click OK twice.
Your changes are saved in the Toolbox profile and applied when you insert the hardware.
