Skipping Dialog Boxes When Opening Large Assemblies

You can set a timer to automatically dismiss some common dialog boxes that often appear when opening assemblies or assembly drawings. When the opening operation is complete, the Open Summary dialog box displays a list of the dismissed dialog boxes.

The timer lets the opening operation continue without you clicking OK in the dialog boxes. This is useful when you open large assemblies or large assembly drawings that take considerable time to open.

To activate the timer:

  1. Click Tools > Options > System Options > Messages/Errors/Warnings.
  2. Under Assemblies, select Automatically dismiss reference and update messages after n seconds.
You can change the number of seconds.
  3. Click OK.
The timer is added to these dialog boxes:
    • Rebuild this document
    • Missing Toolbox configuration (with or without auto-create option)
    • Open External Referenced Documents
    • Unable to locate file
    • File has a non-matching internal ID
    • Resolve components in lightweight drawings if units differ
    • Update drawings sheets if out of date

Now when a large assembly or large assembly drawing takes considerable time to open, the timer automatically dismisses the dialog boxes. When the opening operation is complete, the Open Summary dialog box displays a list of the dismissed dialog boxes. Viewing the Open Summary report can help you diagnose problems in the assembly or drawing. The report only applies to assemblies or assembly drawings that you open from disk.

You can also view the Open Summary report from Performance Evaluation. Click Tools > Evaluate > Performance Evaluation. Under Open Summary, click Show These Parts .
