Large Displacement of a Cylindrical Shell - Pressure

Description

Determine the response of a cylindrical shell under normal uniform pressure P. All edges are fixed. The shell has the following dimensions: L = 254 mm, θ = 0.1 rad, R = 2,540 mm.

Study Type

Nonlinear.

Mesh Type

Shell mesh.

Shell Parameters

Shell thickness = 3.175 mm - thin shell formulation.

Meshing Parameters

Use a Global Size of 0.6".

Material Model

Linear elastic isotropic.

Material Properties

Modulus of elasticity = 3102.75 N/mm2, Poisson's ratio = 0.3.

Restraints and Loads

The outer edges of the plate are fixed and symmetry conditions are applied to the edges of symmetry. The pressure is applied incrementally as follows:

Results

The pressure versus central deflection curve matches the analytical results.

The above graph was not generated directly in SOLIDWORKS Simulation. Results have been processed to generate the graph externally.
