You now open the frame assembly and examine the contact conditions,
fixtures, and applied loads.
-
Browse to drive letter:\Users\Public\Public Documents\SOLIDWORKS\SOLIDWORKS
version\samples\Simulation Examples\MixedMesh.SLDASM
and open the file.
-
Click the Partial study tab and
examine the contact conditions, fixtures, and external loads. Observe the following:
-
The study converts the long and slender extruded bodies into beams.
If you define a new study,
right-click
the solid bodies

in the study tree
and select
Treat selected bodies as beams. As
the beams mesh with one dimensional elements, you reduce the degrees of freedom in the
model significantly.
-
The study has a global bonded contact defined for the
assembly.
-
The bottom edges of the columns are fixed.
-
The study predefines a gravity load to represent the weight of the
structure.
The study defines the aluminum roof and
the vertical glass panels as sheet metal to take advantage of the automatic bonding
between touching entities, shell thickness setting, and placement of the
mid-surface.
