Defining a Parameter

You define the model dimensions that can change as a parameter. You need to define parameters so you can use them as variables for a Design Study. You can define any Simulation parameters and driving global variables as the variables.

The parameter DV1 is pre-defined in the example file. To follow the procedure below, delete the pre-defined parameter in the Parameters dialog box. For more information about defining parameters as variables in a Design Study see SOLIDWORKS Simulation Help: Defining Variables.

To define the parameter DV1:

  1. On the Variable View tab of the MinVolume study tab, in the Variables section, select Add Parameter.
  2. In the Parameters dialog box, type DV1 for Name at the bottom of the column.
  3. Set Category to Model dimensions.
  4. In the graphics area, click the D11 dimension shown in the figure.
  5. Click OK to close the Parameters dialog box.
  6. If needed, click PM_OK.gif to close the Dimension PropertyManager.
The parameters DV2 and DV3 are pre-defined in the example files using a similar procedure.
