Toolbox - Screw Connections Dialog Box

Use the Toolbox - Screw Connections dialog box to configure combinations of bolts, screws, washers, and nuts.

Note: If the combination of choices you make cannot be used for a screw connection, a warning message describing the problem appears in the center of the dialog box.

To open the Toolbox - Screw Connections dialog box, do one of the following:

  • Click Mechanical Content > Screw Connections > Insert.
  • Click Screw Connections (Mechanical toolbar).
  • Type AM_ScrewConnection.
Option Description
Standard Sets the standard on which the hardware components are based.
The drop-down list contains basic standards provided by Toolbox and custom standards you have defined.
The default standard is determined by the active standard in the Standards dialog box.
If you select a different standard from the drop-down list:
  • When you return to the Toolbox - Hardware dialog box after inserting a hole, the software remembers your selection.
  • When you close and reopen the Toolbox - Hardware dialog box, the Standard returns to the Active Standard in the Standards dialog box.
Type Sets the type of hardware component to insert.
Available components are determined by the hardware category and Standard.
Size Sets the size of hardware component to insert.
Available sizes are determined by the Standard and Type.
Head options Sets the head option to use for bolts and screws with multiple head options.
Thread display Indicates how threads are displayed in side views. There are four settings:
  • Simplified

  • Schematic

  • Detailed

  • Profile

The Preview reflects your choice.
Fastener length Sets the length of the hardware component to insert.
Options available are the standard fastener lengths based on the size selected.
Scale Sets the scale factor by which the component size is enlarged or reduced.
The proportions are kept the same.
The value must be positive.
Material thickness Shows the material thickness of the component.
Click to graphically measure the material thickness value by picking two points in the graphics area.
Preview Lets you see how the component will look with the current profile.

Message

As you configure the screw connection, if any of your choices result in a screw connection that is smaller than the material thickness, a warning message appears.

Head side

Option Description
Washer 1 When selected, a washer is inserted on the head side of the hardware component.
The Type and Size of the washer are automatically set based on the screw or bolt type and size.

Nut side

The washer and nuts you select are inserted below the material.

Option Description
Washer 2 When selected, a washer is inserted below the material.
The Type and Size of the washer are automatically set based on the screw or bolt type and size.
Nut 1 When selected, a nut is inserted below the material.
The Type and Size of the nut are automatically set based on the screw or bolt type and size.
You can modify the Bottom Style for nuts with bottom style options.
Nut 2 When selected, a second nut is inserted below the material.
The Type and Size of the nut are automatically set based on the screw or bolt type and size.
You can modify the Bottom Style for nuts with bottom style options.
Create as Block When selected, creates the screw connection as a nested block.
When cleared, creates the components of the screw connection as individual blocks.
Display hidden parts When selected, displays both visibile and hidden lines in the preview and drawing (Hidden side view 3).
When cleared, displays only visible lines (Side view 3).

Command: AM_ScrewConnection

Menu: Mechanical Content > Screw Connections > Insert
