Evaluating Files with the File Preparation Assistant Tool

You can use File Preparation Assistant to evaluate files for common issues such as duplicate file names and missing file or configuration references before saving the files to the 3DEXPERIENCE platform.

1. In SOLIDWORKS, click Tools > File Preparation Assistant.
2. In the File Preparation Assistant dialog box, click Add Folders.
3. In the Open dialog box, select a folder and click Select Folder.
4. Select folders for Log file and Backup.

   Log file	Specifies the folder for log files. The folder stores log files and the HTML analysis results file.
   Backup	Specifies the folder for backups. The folder stores copies of modified files.

5. Under Modify, select items to evaluate:

   Find duplicate files and prompt to merge	Searches for duplicate files. When SOLIDWORKS finds duplicate files, the Merge Duplicates dialog box opens. Specify options: Match on filename. Checks for identical file names. Match on filename and configuration names. Checks for identical file names, configuration names, and the number of configurations. Match on filename and file creation timestamp. Checks for identical file names and file creation timestamps.
   Replace leading/trailing spaces in filenames with "_"	Replaces leading or trailing spaces in a file name with an underscore "_". Specify option: Include non-SOLIDWORKS files. Includes non-SOLIDWORKS files. You can save files from your local files and folder on the 3DEXPERIENCE platfom. You can clean your existing non-platform data to comply with platform-favorable conditions to save files to the platform without failures.
   Extend filenames to be at least three characters	Adds an underscore to a file name when the file name has two or fewer characters. 3DSearch requires at least three characters in a file name to index the file.

6. Under Identify, select items to evaluate:

   3DEXPERIENCE compatibility	Runs the compatibility check on the selected files, which verifies if the files were updated to the new 3DEXPERIENCE Configuration Manager. To automatically update files for 3DEXPERIENCE compatibility, click Tools > Options > System Options > 3DEXPERIENCE Integration and select Update SOLIDWORKS files for compatibility with the 3DEXPERIENCE platform. To manually update files for 3DEXPERIENCE compatibility, with a model open in the FeatureManager® design tree, right-click the top item and select Update for 3DEXPERIENCE Compatibility. See Updating Models for 3DEXPERIENCE Compatibility.
   3DInterconnect references	Identifies files that have 3DInterconnect references and lists the files in the log file. SOLIDWORKS makes no changes to the SOLIDWORKS files.
   Missing file references	Identifies missing file references and provides details in the log file. SOLIDWORKS makes no changes to the SOLIDWORKS files. If you move files after the last save of the model, SOLIDWORKS generates missing file warnings for the moved files.
   Missing configuration references	Identifies missing configuration references and provides details in the log file. SOLIDWORKS makes no changes to the SOLIDWORKS files.
   Detect out-of-date configurations	Lists information about outdated configurations. This could happen if you delete a configuration and do not rebuild the model. Rebuild the models before saving them to the 3DEXPERIENCE platform.
   Mismatched custom property	Identifies files where the attribute mapping will fail because of mismatched data types. To add a custom property check: Select Check custom property values. Click Custom Property Checks In the dialog box, specify the SOLIDWORKS Custom Property Name. Select an option for the Mapped Attribute Data Type. Click OK.
   Detect out-of-date configurations	Lists outdated configurations. This could happen if you delete a configuration and do not rebuild the model. Rebuild the models before saving them to the 3DEXPERIENCE platform.

   The File Preparation Assistant automatically performs additional checks.

   Update file extensions	Updates files that have old file format extensions (.prt, .asm, .drw) to current file extensions (.SLDPRT, .SLDASM, .SLDDRW).
   Number of configurations	Displays the number of configurations in the log file.
   File version	Checks for files older than SOLIDWORKS 2021. You can find old files and save files in the latest version.

   The software creates an HTML file of the results in the log file folder.
   
   
7. Review the HTML file before saving the model to the 3DEXPERIENCE platform.
8. You can click to display that data that you require.
   • To display statistics, click Statistics.
   • To display alerts, click Alerts.

   
   
   
9. To download individual reports as CSV files from the HTML analysis, click next to the report.
