Auto Route PropertyManager

To display the Auto Route PropertyManager, click Tools > Routing > Electrical > Auto Route while editing a route.

Routing Mode

Auto Route Automatically routes through existing geometry in the 3D route sketch.
Route along geometry Creates a route based on existing geometry.
In Route along geometry mode, you can specify the distance between a route and other planar faces, such as walls.
Edit (drag) Lets you adjust the route by dragging points and lines without closing the PropertyManager.
Re-route spline or line Re-routes through selected clips.
Guidelines Displays a preview of the wires in a cabling route that contains connectivity data.
You can add connectivity data automatically using a From-To list, or manually using Edit Wires. Guidelines show the connections of the wires that you need to bundle into finished routes.
You can also route automatically by dropping cable clips in the route.

To unhook a route that has automatically attached to cable clips, see Re-routing to Ignore Clips.

Auto Route

Routing Options
Merge wires into single route Routes the selected wires along a single route.
Create a distinct route for each wire Routes the selected wires as distinct routes.
Auto Route
Orthogonal route Creates a route with segments that run parallel to the X, Y, and Z axes, with right angles between segments.
Alternate paths Displays alternate valid orthogonal routes.

To access alternate paths, click in the Alternate paths box and then click in the graphics area to view the manipulator.

To view the next alternate solution, right-click in the manipulator.

To accept the current solution, left-click in the manipulator.
Auto Route provides a maximum of seven solutions at a time.
Selections

In the graphics area, select a start point (any point in the current sketch) and the entity that you want to become the next point in the route.

Valid selections include:

Route type Valid selections Result
Standard Point in the current sketch Adds a spline from the start point to the selected point.
Sketch point outside the route sketch
Line in the current sketch Adds a spline from the start point to the closest endpoint of the selected entity, then the route continues to the other end of the entity.
Line, construction line, or reference axis of an object outside the route sketch
Orthogonal Line or end point of a sketch segment in the current sketch Creates a path with lines that run parallel to the X, Y, and Z axes, with right angles between segments.
Line, edge, or reference axis of an object outside the route sketch Creates a corresponding line within the route sketch, and creates the route segment.

If you click Undo once, the route segment is removed, but the sketch line remains. Then you can route to an endpoint of the sketch line. If you click Undo a second time, the sketch line is removed.

Current Selection Lists the entities that you select.
Current Edit Point Lists the point from which the route continues.

For example, this could be the last point you selected, or the endpoint of the last axis you selected.

Flip through clip Reverses the direction of the route through the selected clip.

Current Selection Lists the entities that you select.
Offset for route along surface Defines the offset distance between the route and the selected surface. You can set the distance to different values for different entities.
Include covering for dimension Applies a covering to the route.
Use centerline dimension Overrides the setting in Routing Options.
Current Edit Point Lists the point from which the route will continue.

For example, this could be the last point you selected, or the endpoint of the last axis you selected.

Flip through clip Reverses the direction of the route through the selected clip.

Guidelines

Follow Routing Path Redirects guidelines to follow a route path. See Redirecting Guidelines to Follow a Route Path.
Route Path Lists the sketches you select as route paths.
Routing Options
Merge wires into single route Routes the selected wires along a single route.
Create a distinct route for each wire Routes the selected wires as distinct routes.
Guideline Actions
Merge guidelines to form routes Routes the selected wires along a single route.
Join guidelines to existing routes Joins a guideline into an existing route at a selected route point.
Convert guidelines to routes Converts one or more guidelines into unique routes.
Merging or joining guidelines into routes works best if their paths are close together or approximately parallel to one another.
