Classification Management

Classification lets you define the groups (classes and subclasses) in which electrical elements are stored. They are usually sorted by their electrical function or by common characteristics.

The Classification management is common to several types of electrical elements: Components, Cable References, Macros, and Title Blocks. The features can be different according to the Classification you want to manage.

For example, on Components, you can manage User data, associate 3D part, and 2D footprint, but you cannot do this on Title block classifications.

In each Classification, there are Classes and Sub-classes. There are two types of classes. System classes cannot be deleted. User classes can be managed (created, edited, and deleted) by the user.

To open Classification management, click Library > Classification management .

Alternatively, you can access Classification Management by selecting any command in the Graphics or Manufacturers group in the Library.

From the different types of classifications, select the classification corresponding to the classes you want to display. The left part of the dialog box displays the list of the classes and subclasses in a tree structure. The right part shows the subclasses contained in the selected class.

Icon/ Options Description
New Class Lets you create a new class (if you have selected the Classification level) or a new subclass (if you have selected a Class level).
Delete Removes the selected Classes or subclasses. When you delete a class containing subclasses, the subclasses are also deleted. The objects (symbols, manufacturer parts...) assigned to the deleted class are assigned to the class of the superior level or "Unclassed elements" class.
Properties Opens the Properties dialog box of the selected Class or Classification to let you edit its properties. For the Component classes, you can also assign a root, a user data file, a 3D part, a 2D footprint, and a connection label by default.
Customize Lets you customize the user data and translatable data assigned to a Class or a Subclass.
Cut Places a copy of the selected class on the SOLIDWORKS Electrical clipboard and deletes the originals.

You can also press Ctrl + X.
Copy Places a copy of the selected class on the SOLIDWORKS Electrical clipboard and keeps the originals. Copy is used to copy the selected element list to another application such as Excel (List mode only).

You can also press Ctrl + C.
Paste Pastes the class present in the SOLIDWORKS Electrical clipboard.

You can also press Ctrl + V.
Select all Selects all the classes displayed in the right-hand side of the Classification management.
Configuration Manages the display settings for items in the dialog box.
Display sub-classes content When this is selected all the sub-classes contained in the selected classification or class display.
Classes visibility Lets you hide unused or default system classes to simplify the classification design tree and help you find relevant components and symbols.

You can export the classification list to another application. On the right side of the dialog box, select the classes you want to export and use the copy and paste commands.
