Lighting Simulation

You can modify the PhotoWorks properties of three SolidWorks light types: Directional, Point, and Spot.

The light source shadow properties provide a local shadow control. Only the shadows for the selected light source are created. In addition, PhotoWorks provides global shadow control. For more information, see Scene Lighting.

Local shadows have priority over global shadows.

To modify the PhotoWorks properties for lights:

  1. Select the FeatureManager design tree tab .

  2. Expand the Lights, Cameras and Scene folder.

  3. Right-click a light and select Properties.

  4. In the SolidWorks light PropertyManager, click PhotoWorks Properties.

Interaction with Lighting in SolidWorks Motion

When you open a motion study, lights that are on in SolidWorks are turned on in PhotoWorks. Lights that are off in SolidWorks are turned off in PhotoWorks. This behavior lets you animate the state of lights in SolidWorks and PhotoWorks but may significantly affect rendering. To preview lighting interactions, run a test render and adjust the lighting before completing the final render.
