Post-Migration Instructions for Toolbox Users

When Toolbox migration is complete, instruct users to delete existing Toolbox paths and use File Explorer instead of SolidWorks to check in assemblies that use Toolbox parts.

Users should:

  • Remove existing Toolbox paths from SolidWorks Referenced Documents folder lists:
    1. In SolidWorks, click Tools > Options > System Options > File Locations .
    2. For Show folders for, select Referenced Documents.
    3. Under Folders, select old Toolbox paths and click Delete.
    4. Click OK.
  • Check parent assemblies into the vault using File Explorer.

Checking in assemblies from the SolidWorks add-in is less convenient than using File Explorer because you must open each assembly in SolidWorks before checking in.

Because SolidWorks searches for Toolbox parts in the vault first, SolidWorks updates Toolbox references to the new vault location automatically. If you open earlier versions of your assemblies, SolidWorks automatically updates those Toolbox references as well.

To confirm that an assembly is referencing Toolbox parts in the vault, open the assembly in SolidWorks and click File > File References.
