Lighting PropertyManagers

You can modify the intensity, color, position, and direction of lights. The light properties that are available depend on the type of light source and whether PhotoView 360 is added in.

To display this PropertyManager, in the DisplayManager, click View Scene, Lights, and Cameras , then do one of the following:

  • When PhotoView 360 is not added in, right-click SOLIDWORKS Lights and click Edit All Lights.
  • When PhotoView 360 is added in, it is recommended that you edit the primary PhotoView 360 lighting, which comes from an HDR (High Dynamic Range) image that surrounds the scene spherically, creating realistic light and reflections. Right-click PhotoView 360 Lights and select Edit Primary PhotoView 360 Lighting .

    To edit individual lights, expand PhotoView 360 Lights , right-click any light below Primary PhotoView 360 Lighting (including lights that are not on), and select Edit All Lights.

    The Edit Scene PropertyManager - PhotoView 360 Lighting tab sets lighting properties for a scene.

  • Ambient Light PropertyManager

    Ambient light illuminates the model evenly from all directions in SOLIDWORKS only. You can modify the intensity and color of ambient light. You can turn the Ambient light on or off, but you cannot delete it or add additional Ambient lights.

  • Directional Light PropertyManager

    Directional light comes from a source that is infinitely far away from the model. It is a columned light source consisting of parallel rays from a single direction. You can modify the intensity, color, and position of the light source.

  • Point Light PropertyManager

    A point light comes from a very small light source located at a specific coordinate in the model space. This type of light source emits light in all directions. You can modify the intensity, color, and position of the light source.

  • Spot Light PropertyManager

    A spot light comes from a restricted, focused light with a cone-shaped beam that is brightest at its center. A Spot light can be aimed at a specific area of the model. You can modify the intensity, color, and position of the light source, and you can adjust the angle through which the beam spreads.

  • Adding Sunlight to a Model

    The sunlight you add to a model takes location, time, date, and atmospheric conditions into account.
