Working with Projects

Hide Project

Hiding projects improves performance in the vault view.

To hide a project:

Right-click a project in the vault view and select Hide Project.

To show the project again:

Right-click anywhere in the vault view and select Unhide Project > project_name or Unhide All.

Change Document Project

You can move a document from one project to another within the vault view.

You must be the owner to move a document to another project.
To move a document from one project to another:
  1. Right-click the document in the vault view and select Change Project. In the SOLIDWORKS Explorer client, right-click the document and select Change Project.
  2. Choose the project and options in the Change Document Project dialog box as described below, then click OK.

The document (and its children, if selected) is moved to the project you selected. If the document is referenced by another document, a shortcut symbol appears next to the referenced document.

Choose a project from the list to which you want to move the document.

Do not move if document is a link Do not change the project if the document resides in another project and is referenced by a link .

Create Subproject

You can create subprojects to help organize project documents into more manageable pieces. Subprojects are similar to subfolders in Windows Explorer.

The vault administrator must have enabled subproject creation on the Vault Settings tab of VaultAdmin. You must have write access to the project to create subprojects. Administrators cannot create subprojects unless they also have read/write access to the parent project. Project access is assigned on a per project basis under Project permissions on the Project tab of the VaultAdmin tool.

To create a subproject:

  1. Right-click the project in the vault view and select Create SubProject. In the SOLIDWORKS Explorer client, right-click a project and select Create SubProject.
  2. In the dialog box, under New subproject information, type a Name and Description in the boxes. Parent project is read-only.
  3. Click OK.
    The subproject appears in the tree underneath its parent project in the vault view.
