Adding Folders and Files
The tree structure in the file vault is made of folders and files.
To create new folders in the vault:
Open SolidWorks Enterprise PDM and navigate to
the location for the new directory.
Right-click in the right pane and select New, Folder.
To create a file from a template:
-
Right-click in the vault and select New.
The list contains all pre-configured file and folder templates you
are authorized to use.
-
Select a template.
The data card for the file is displayed if Show
file data card when file is created is specified for this template.
Most of the data card is filled in automatically using information from
the project you selected.
Verify or add information to the data card.
Create the file.
To copy and move folders and files into the vault:
Use standard Windows copy and move techniques.
The numeric extension on Pro/ENGINEER files
is removed when the files are added to the vault. If you drag and drop
a Pro/ENGINEER file into the vault from a directory with multiple versions
of the file that are differentiated by extension, the file with the latest
extension is added.
Copy and Move Functions
Enterprise PDM handles copy and move functions as follows:
The version of the file in your
working directory is copied; if not available in your working directory,
the latest version of the file is copied from the archive.
Changes being made to a file
checked out to another user are not included in the copy.
Copied files are assigned to their initial state
in the workflow. Moved files retain their pre-moved state.
If a file you are moving is referenced by other
files, a dialog box displays the referenced files and asks you to confirm
that the referenced search path should be updated automatically.
To move files in the vault, you must have delete
permission for the source folder and add permission for the target folder.
