SolidWorks Enterprise PDM Add-in

The Enterprise PDM Add-in for SolidWorks provides source control and workflow tools in SolidWorks.

To activate the Enterprise PDM Add-in:

  1. In SolidWorks, select Tools, Add-Ins and verify that SolidWorks Enterprise PDM is selected.

The Enterprise PDM window is displayed on a tab in the Task Pane by default. Click the Enterprise PDM tab to open the Task Pane.

  1. In SolidWorks, open or create a part, drawing, or assembly to view  Enterprise PDM information for the file in the Task Pane.

If the file is not checked-out, you are prompted to check it out before you open it. For files that contain references to other files, the Check Out dialog box opens.

  1. Right-click the file or a variable to display a menu of Enterprise PDM commands.

Enterprise PDM Toolbar

The Enterprise PDM toolbar is displayed at the top of the pane.

 These commands are also available from the Enterprise PDM menu.

Get Latest Version

Retrieves the latest version of the file from the archive.

Get Version

Retrieves the selected version of the file from the archive. Click the down arrow to display a list of versions and revisions of the file.

If there are cold storage (archived) versions, they are listed under Versions in Cold Storage. You cannot retrieve versions from cold storage.

Check Out

Checks out the file for editing.

Check In

Checks in the file with your changes.

Change State

Changes the workflow state of the file. Click the down arrow to display a list of available options.

Show Card

Displays the file data card for the selected file.

Update Toolbox References

(Assemblies only) With the pre-2010 Toolbox integration, if Toolbox references have been added to the assembly and the parts are not in the vault, you are prompted to add them. Click Update Toolbox References to point the references to the vault. With the 2010 integration, you should never need Update Toolbox References.

Where Used

Displays files that refer to the selected file in the File Viewer dialog box. For example, if you select a part, the File Viewer lists assemblies that contain the part.

Select in Windows Explorer

Opens Windows Explorer in the folder where the selected file is located and pre-selects the file.

Zoom to Selection

SolidWorks command. Zooms to the selected part or subassembly.

Open

SolidWorks command. Opens the selected part.

Edit

SolidWorks command. Lets you edit the selected part.

Enterprise PDM Search

Opens the search tool. Click the down arrow to display a list of shortcuts to the forms and favorites that you have permission to see.

Enterprise PDM Menu

From the SolidWorks menu, click Enterprise PDM to display the following commands.

Get Latest Version

Retrieves the latest version of the file from the archive.

Get

Retrieves the selected version of the file from the archive.

Check Out

Checks out the file for editing.

Check In

Checks in the file with your changes.

Undo Check Out

Cancels a check out without saving changes.

Properties

Displays the Enterprise PDM file data card.

Options

Display the Options dialog box. See SolidWorks Enterprise PDM Add-in Options.

Customize Menu

Select items to display in the Enterprise PDM menu.

Enterprise PDM Task Pane

Click the SolidWorks Enterprise PDM tab of the Task Pane to view a hierarchical display of the selected Enterprise PDM file. The Task Pane lets you view file variables and perform commands from a right-click menu.

You can configure the appearance of the Task Pane and Preview Area by setting SolidWorks Enterprise PDM Add-in Options.

To rearrange columns, drag a column header to a new location. File / Variable must be the first column.

Variables

The file list and the preview pane contain information variables.

Local version

Version numbers for a file. For example, in the version numbers 3/3, the first number indicates the version you are viewing and the second is the number of versions. Bold numbers indicate that a newer version is available on the server.

Local revision

The revision level assigned to the local version, for example, B.

Checked out by

Displays the name of a user who has checked out the file.

Checked out in

Location of the file that is checked out.

Workflow state

The current state of the file as defined in the workflow.

Configuration

The SolidWorks-defined configuration.

Variables

One or more custom variables that are set up with the Enterprise PDM Administration tool.

Quick Info Icons

These icons appear next to the file in the task pane.

Checked in by another user in this session.

The local file is the same as the vault version.

The local file is older than the vault version.

The local file is edited but not saved.

The local file is newer than the vault version.

The local file not in the vault.

Shortcut Menu

Right-click a file in the Enterprise PDM Task Pane to access the menu.

You can also access many of the commands by right-clicking in the FeatureManager design tree.

Select All

 

Refresh Tree

Refreshes the information displayed in the tree, including status of files checked out or checked in by other users since the last refresh.

Collapse All

Collapses the view of the variables for all components of the currently selected file.

Expand All

Expands the view of the variables for all components of the currently selected file.

Properties

Displays the file's Enterprise PDM file data card.

Get Latest Version

Retrieves the latest version of the file from the archive.

Get

Lets you select a version from the list to retrieve it  from the archive server.

Check Out

Checks out the file for editing.

Check In

Checks in the file with your changes.

Undo Check Out

Cancels a check out without saving changes.

Open

 SolidWorks command. Opens the selected part.

Edit

 SolidWorks command. Lets you edit the selected part.

Preview Area

A preview area at the bottom of the Enterprise PDM Task Pane displays a thumbnail image and can display variables. Drag the top bar to change the size of the preview image.
