Bearing Loads

The Bearing Load PropertyManager allows you to define bearing loads that develop between contacting cylindrical faces or circular shell edges. In most cases, the contacting faces have the same radius. Bearing forces generate a nonuniform pressure at the interface of contact. Depending on your selection, the program assumes a sinusoidal or parabolic distribution in the appropriate half-space.

Selected Entities

  • Cylindrical Faces or Shell Circular Edges for Bearing Load . Select the cylindrical faces to which you want to apply the bearing loads.

  • Select a Coordinate System . Select a coordinate system to determine the direction of the bearing loads. The z-axis of this coordinate system must coincide with the axis of the selected face(s) which must be cylindrical.

Bearing Load

  • Unit . Select a unit system for the bearing load.

  • X-Direction . Set the value of the bearing force in the x-direction of the selected coordinate system.

  • Y-Direction . Set the value of the bearing force in the y-direction of the selected coordinate system.

You can specify only one component (the X or Y component) of the bearing load.

  • Sinusoidal distribution. Uses a sinusoidal load distribution in the appropriate half-space.

  • Parabolic distribution. Uses a parabolic load distribution in the appropriate half-space.

Variation with Time

For nonlinear studies, you can define time-dependent bearing loads.

Symbol Settings

  • Edit Color. Click this button to change the color of load symbols.

  • Symbol Size . Use the spin arrows to control the size of load symbols.

  • Show Preview. If checked, turns the display of the bearing load symbols on. By default, load symbols are always displayed unless you turn off their display on the Load/Restraint page of the Default Options (New Study) dialog box.
