Settings Dialog Box - Explorer

Use the Explorer page to control how files are shown to the user or group members in the vault view.

The ability to see files is also affected by the user's access permissions.

To display the Settings dialog box:

Right-click a user or group and select Settings.

File types to show

Show all files

The user sees all files in the vault and any local files or folders that currently exist only in the local vault view.

A local file is listed as <local file> in the state column and its file icon is grayed out. A local folder has a grayed out folder icon. Local files and folders must be added to the vault to be available to other users.

A file or folder can become local if SOLIDWORKS PDM has not detected the file extension as a valid file type when saving it from an application, or if the files or folders were added during an offline session. Some files, like backup files, should only be local and never added to the vault.

To make a local file available to other users, right-click it and select Add To File Vault.

By default, if the logged in user's permission restrict access to files or folders that have previously been accessed, the cached copies of the files and folders appear as local files in the local file vault view. They cannot be added to the vault since they are already in it. Ensure that the logged in user has sufficient permissions to see the files, or enable Show only files that are part of the file vault to avoid seeing the local copies.

Show only files that are part of the file vault

The user sees only files that are available in the vault. Local files are not listed.

This is the preferred option.

Show only local files

Only local files or folders are shown to the user. No vault files are shown.

Local file clean-up

Automatically delete local read-only files that are not part of the file vault

Local folders and local read-only files that are stored only in the local vault view and are not part of the vault are automatically deleted.

SOLIDWORKS PDM uses a local cache mechanism; each vault view stores a cached copy of a retrieved file or folder.

For example, if a file or folder is deleted or moved in the vault from another client view, a cached local copy of the deleted file or folder is left in the local client views on other systems. This option ensures that these orphaned objects are cleaned up automatically.

Miscellaneous

The Always work with latest version of files option, which was previously available under Miscellaneous, is now on the Reference Dialog tab, under Check out and version access controls.

Show inherited values in folder card edit page

Inherited values are shown in the Edit Values tab of folder data cards.

When saving changes, the inherited values are applied to the current folder as well.

This overrides the default, which is that only unique values that are applied to the selected folder are shown in the Edit Values tab. Inherited values appear empty and are applied on an overlying folder. This makes it easier to search for a specific folder where a value is uniquely set.

Show full user names

By default, the SOLIDWORKS PDM user interface displays the login name of users to indicate who has created or checked out files, sent or received mail messages, or initiated actions performed on files.

In some cases, for example when Windows Active Directory is used to import users, login names may be truncated, making it hard to identify individuals.

Select this option to display the full names of users in the SOLIDWORKS PDM user interface.

Checkout files when

These options let you configure SOLIDWORKS PDM to automatically check out files in the vault when you use the Open or Edit command to access them.

For SOLIDWORKS files, if this option is not selected, a dialog box prompts you to check out the file. Selecting these options bypasses the dialog box.

The Open command is executed Select this option to automatically check out files when you access them using the Open command.
The Edit command is executed Select this option to automatically check out files when you access them using the Edit command.
