Transient Analysis

Improvements in transient analysis include nested iterations, time-averaged results, and results data.

  • Nested iterations. Transient analysis is more robust when using a large time step with the nested iterations algorithm. By using a large time step (in cases where you do not want to capture tiny transient details) you can speed up the transient calculation.
  • Time-averaged results. With transient tasks, sometimes you need to observe the flow field averaged on time rather than on a set of fields at the exact time moment. You can save time-averaged results for a specified parameter on the Solving tab of the Calculation Options dialog box.
  • Results data. Transient results data can be smaller when you save specific parameters rather than all of the parameters.
Currently, nested iterations do not support:
  • Rotation (sliding, circumferential averaging)
  • Condensation, humidity, steam, real gases
  • Cavitation
  • High mach number
