Mesh

The mesh partitions each domain of the simulation model (such as the cavity, cooling channel, and runner) into many cells. Within each cell, the simulation considers material and flow behavior as constant.

There are two methods for meshing the geometry that you want to include in the plastic injection molding simulation:

Automatic

Creates a robust mesh automatically

Manual

Lets you set preferred mesh settings, access mesh editing tools, and improve the quality of the mesh. By creating a more refined mesh with smaller cells, the simulation can predict more detailed material and flow behavior at the expense of longer simulation times.

  • Solid Mesh

    Use a solid mesh to analyze thicker parts and view results throughout the part thickness. A solid mesh provides better accuracy for models with more complex or detailed geometry but requires longer computational time for the solution.

  • Shell Mesh

    Use a shell mesh for thin-walled parts with uniform thickness. A shell mesh is composed of triangular shell elements and it requires less computational time than a solid mesh without compromising the results accuracy.

  • Edit Mesh PropertyManager - Mesh Analysis

    A collection of meshing tools lets you to inspect the quality of surface meshes, and repair errors associated with invalid mesh elements. A good quality surface mesh guarantees the accuracy of the simulation results.

  • Supported Mesh Type for Cool and Warp Results

    This table summarizes the mesh type that is supported for the results from the COOL and WARP modules.

  • Supported Mesh Type for Pack Results

    This table summarizes the mesh type that is supported for the PACK module results.

  • Supported Mesh Type for Flow Results

    This table summarizes the mesh type that is supported for the Flow module results.
