Coolant Flow Field PropertyManager

The Coolant Flow Field Boundary Condition allows you to define multiple inlets and outlets for complex cooling circuits. All side passages without inlets or outlets are considered dead ends.

To open the Coolant Flow Field PropertyManager:

  • In the PlasticsManager, expand Boundary Conditions, and double-click Coolant Entrance.

  Gravity Direction: (Global) Select the downward direction for gravity X dir, Y dir, or Z dir.
  Control type Select one of the following value for your control type

Flow rate (cc/sec)

Enter the coolant flow rate.

Coolant velocity that is high enough to create turbulent flow is essential to create maximum heat transfer from the mold into the coolant. A warning message is written to the log file if the coolant flow rate is too low to support turbulent conditions.

Pressure drop

Enter the pressure drop between the inlet and outlet.
  Inlet Temperature (ºC) Set the coolant temperature at the inlet.
  Apply Adds the current cooling circuit definition in the table.
  Clear Removes the selected cooling circuit definition from the table.
  Set Inlet and Outlet Defines the inlet(s) and outlet(s) in each cooling circuit. Select a circuit from the table and use the dialogs to define its inlets and outlets.

Inlet

Sets the selected cooling circuit as an inlet.

Outlet

Sets the selected cooling circuit as an outlet.
  Select through Selects all visible and hidden surfaces within your selection window. Clear the box to select visible surfaces only.
  Select Saves the current definition.
  Delete Clears the current definition.
