Tree View

The CircuitWorks tree view is a hierarchical display of ECAD data.

To display the tree:

Open an ECAD file. The tree is on the left side of the CircuitWorks application.

From the tree, you can:
  • Double-click a parent item or click the icon to display its children.
  • Click an item to highlight it in the preview image.
  • Right-click an item to select a command.
You can display the CircuitWorks tree in SOLIDWORKS by clicking the CircuitWorks tab. See Using the CircuitWorks Feature Tree.

Tree View Search Filter

You can search for components in the tree view by using the search filter at the top of the tree.

  1. Enter characters that are in the name of the component you want to find.

    As you enter characters, a search-ahead capability narrows the component list in the tree view to only components whose names contain the characters you enter.

  2. To clear the search and restore the full list of components, click .

Tree Commands

You can perform operations from the tree by right-clicking an item:

Filter Out / Filter In Filter out or in the selected item. See Filters.
Zoom to Selection Zoom to the selected item. See Preview Toolbar for additional zoom controls.
Zoom to Fit  
Sort Sort tree items:
  • Ascending (alphabetical order, A-Z)
  • Descending (reverse alphabetical order, Z-A)
Goto Locate an item in the tree.
Properties View and optionally edit item properties. See Properties.
Build Model Create a SOLIDWORKS part model for the selected board or component. See Building Component Models.

Icons can have several variations. For example, for components:
Filtered out (will not be modeled)
Not in the Component Library (will need to be modeled by CircuitWorks)
Zero-height (will be modeled as a 2D sketch)
CircuitWorks uses the latest SOLIDWORKS PDM version of the component.

Specifying Component Names in the CircuitWorks Tree

You can specify how components are named in the CircuitWorks tree. For example, you can display the ECAD part number followed by the ECAD part name.

To specify component labels in the CircuitWorks tree:

  1. To display the CircuitWorks Options dialog box, do one of the following:
    • In the SOLIDWORKS application, click Tools > CircuitWorks > CircuitWorks Options.
    • From the CircuitWorks application, click the CircuitWorks application menu , and then click Options .
  2. Click General .
  3. Under CircuitWorks tree, select options for Show components in the tree using:
    Option Description
    First part Specifies the first portion of the name by ECAD component name, or ECAD part number.
    Delimiter Specifies an optional character string to separate the first part of the name from the secondary part.
    Second part Specifies the optional second portion of the name.
  4. Click OK.
