Solid Mesh - Manual (Tetrahedral Mesh) PropertyManager

The program transforms the data of an existing surface mesh to fill in the volume of a part with solid tetrahedral elements.

To open the Solid Mesh - Manual (Tetrahedral Mesh) PropertyManager:

  1. Create a solid mesh with the Manual method.
  2. The Solid Mesh - Manual (Tetrahedral Mesh) PropertyManager appears in the mesh creating process after you create a surface mesh, and resolve any mesh quality issues.
Domain Type

You set the Domain Type in the preceding step of the process of creating a solid mesh.

Cavity/Insert/Runner

Meshes the cavity, insert, and runner domains.

Cooling Channel

Meshes the cooling channel domain.

Mold

Meshes the mold domain.

Mesh Type

Tetrahedral

Creates a mesh with tetrahedra elements. Apply a tetrahedral mesh for cooling channel and mold parts.

Hybrid

Available for cavity domain.

Creates a hybrid mesh with tetrahedra and prism elements. Prism elements are located near the surface of the cavity. These boundary layer elements accurately capture the high gradients in temperature and viscosity. Apply a hybrid mesh for cavity, insert, or runner parts.

Boundary layers are thin mesh elements created at the inner and outer surfaces of the part. They allow resolution of temperature and solidification effects that vary through the thickness of the part, because the surface layers can freeze while the central layers continue to flow. For high accuracy, specify two or more boundary layers.

Gradation Sets the mesh transition between areas with refined mesh and the default mesh.

Move the slider to the left (Smooth) for a smoother mesh size transition with more elements. Move the slider to the right (Sharp) to decrease the number of elements for a more "uneven" transition.

Min. Thickness of Boundary-Layer Elements Available when you set Mesh Type to Hybrid.

Sets the minimum element size for the boundary layer elements. Ensures that multiple elements are created across the thickness of parts that are very thick or very thin.

Create Mesh Creates a solid mesh.
Delete Mesh Deletes the current mesh.
Cross section of a solid mesh with tetrahedra elements. Cross section of a hybrid mesh with boundary elements at the surfaces and tetrahedra elements through the core.

Section Clipping Settings

Adjust sliders to create cross-sections of the mesh to visualize internal (hidden) elements.
+ X Controls the cross-section boundary along the +X axis.
- X Controls the cross-section boundary along the -X axis.
+ Y Controls the cross-section boundary along the +Y axis.
- Y Controls the cross-section boundary along the -Y axis.
+ Z Controls the cross-section boundary along the +Z axis.
- Z Controls the cross-section boundary along the -Z axis.
Reset Resets the cross-section display to the default settings.
