Design Checker

You can check designs of SOLIDWORKS documents using a standards file generated with Design Checker. You can also correct all failed checks for which Design Checker supports auto-correction.

Creating a Design Checker Task

To create a Design Checker task:

  1. Click Design Checker on the sidebar, or click Tasks > Run Design Checker.
  2. In the dialog box, type a title for Task title.
  3. Click Add Standards and select one or more standards files (*.swstd).
    Drafting standards (ANSI, ISO, DIN, JIS, BSI, GOST and GB) are provided with a set of built-in standard files. The file location of the drafting standards is drive letter:\Program Files\SOLIDWORKS Corp\SOLIDWORKS\dsgnchk\Data.
  4. Specify files or folders (not both) for Task files or folders.
    Option Description
    Include subfolders Available when you select folders.
    Add File Browse for SOLIDWORKS files.
    Add Folder Browse for folders. Specify part, assembly, drawing, or all types of SOLIDWORKS files for File Name or Type.
    Delete Select an item in the list and click Delete to remove the item.
  5. Select Auto correct all failures to correct all failed checks for which Design Checker supports autocorrection.

Scheduling the Task

To schedule the task:

  1. Under Task schedule, set:
    Option Description
    Running mode Specifies how often the task runs. Select Once, Daily, Weekly, or Monthly.
    Start time  
    Start date  
  2. Specify the Task output folder:

    This folder Browse to specify a folder.
  3. Add Report to Design Binder. The report appears in the Design Binder folder in the file's FeatureManager design tree.
  4. Click Advanced if you want to change task options such as backup file location and time-out duration.
  5. Click Finish.
    The task and its title, scheduled time, scheduled date, and status appear in the Tasks panel. The status of the task is Scheduled.
    To run a scheduled task, your computer must be on at the scheduled start time. The SOLIDWORKS Task Scheduler window does not need to be open. If your computer is off at the scheduled start time, the task runs when you turn your computer on.

    At the scheduled start time, the task is initiated. If the task acts on more than one file, a sub-task is generated for each file. If you selected Backup task files in Task Options, a backup copy of each file is saved to a .zip file. When the task completes, the status changes to Completed. Click Completed to see the SOLIDWORKS Task Scheduler Report.

    Design Checker creates a summary report when the task acts on multiple files. Access the summary report under the status of the task. To view the detailed report for a file, select the report file path.

    Results are stored in the folder with name format: <file name_SOLIDWORKS Checker Results_date stamp_hour stamp>.

    If your backup files include Unicode file paths, use a zip file extraction application that supports UTF-8 encoding.
