Example: Editing a Hex Bolt in a Custom Standard

This example describes the modification of the name and default length of a hex bolt in a custom standard called Custom ANSI Inch.

This procedure assumes that the Custom ANSI Inch standard has already been created as a copy of the ANSI Inch standard.

  1. Click Standards (Mechanical Toolbox toolbar) or Mechanical Toolbox > Standards.
  2. In the Toolbox - Standards dialog box, under Custom standards, select any standard and click Edit.
  3. In the left pane of the Toolbox - Table Editor, expand Custom ANSI Inch > HARDWARE > BOLTS > Hex Bolt.
  4. To modify how the hex bolt name appears in the Toolbox - Hardware dialog box:
    1. In the top section of the right pane, for Description Format, click Browse (...).
    2. For Related Standard, type ANSI Inch.
    3. In the Toolbox - Edit Description dialog box, under Available fields, select Related Standard and click Add to Description.
      In the Description field, %Related Standard is added to end of the description.
    4. Click OK.
  5. To change the default length of the hex bolt:
    1. In the left pane, under Hex Bolt, click Length.
    2. In the right pane, in the first row of the data table, for LENGTH, change the value.
    3. Click Close.
  6. Click Close to close the Toolbox - Standards dialog box.
  7. Click Mechanical Toolbox > Hardware.
  8. In the Toolbox - Hardware dialog box:
    1. In the left column, click Bolts and Screws.
    2. For Standard, select Custom ANSI Inch.
    3. For Type, click Hex Bolt.
      Under Description, the Name field includes the Related Standard you specified in step 4.
    4. Expand Properties.
      The Fastener length and Thread length fields show the value you set in step 5.
