Adding Toolbox Hardware Components to a Drawing

Use the Toolbox - Hardware dialog box to access and configure the hardware components provided by Toolbox and to insert them into drawings.

  1. Click Hardware (Mechanical Toolbox toolbar) or Mechanical Toolbox > Hardware > Insert.
  2. In the dialog box, on the left, select a hardware category (Bolts and Screws, Nuts, Pins, or Washers).
  3. On the right, select the Standard.
  4. Select the component Type and Size.
  5. Optional: Set the Scale to display the part in the drawing.
  6. Under Properties, for Creation Method, select the component view:
    • Near Side
    • Far Side
    • Side view1
    • Side view2
    • Side view3
    • Side view4
    • Hidden side view1
    • Hidden side view2
    • Hidden side view3
    • Hidden side view4
    The component views available depend on the component Type you selected in step 4.
    The Preview in the top right corner of the dialog box lets you see how the component will look with the current properties.
  7. Select physical properties such as head option, thread display, or fastener or thread length.
    The component category, for example Bolts and Screws, determines the property options.
    If Thread display is available as an option for a component, the Preview reflects your choice.
  8. To chose whether to insert the hardware component as a block and to change layer preferences, click Settings.
    The Toolbox - Settings dialog box opens to the appropriate Hardware screen for the component you are inserting.

    Make settings changes as needed and click OK.

  9. Click OK.
    The dialog box closes and the hardware component appears in the graphics area in the cross-hairs of the tracker.
  10. To insert the hardware component, do one of the following:
    • Click in the graphics area to locate the hardware.

      The tracker places the component at the center of the cross-hairs.

    • In the Command window, at the Specify destination prompt, type the destination coordinates and press Enter.
  11. Set the angle of the component by doing one of the following:
    • Rotate the component using the tracker and click when it is positioned correctly.
    • In the Command window, at the Specify rotation prompt, type the component angle and press Enter.
  12. To add additional instances of the hardware component, repeat steps 10 and 11.
  13. Optional: You can change the creation method or reference point for the component you are inserting.
    Toolbox provides the following options:
    • NS - Near side
    • FS - Far side
    • SV1 - Side view 1
    • SV2 - Side view 2
    • SV3 - Side view 3
    • SV4 - Side view 4
    • HSV1 - Hidden side view1
    • HSV2 - Hidden side view2
    • HSV3 - Hidden side view3
    • HSV4 - Hidden side view4
    • reference Point - Insertion point for the hardware component.
    The options available depend on the component Type you selected in step 4.

    Do one of the following:

    • Right-click to display all options in a shortcut menu and select an option.
    • In the Command window, type one of the options shown and click Enter.
  14. When you have added as many instances as needed, do one of the following:
    • To return to the Toolbox - Hardware dialog box, press Enter or press the space bar.
    • To close the command without returning to the dialog box, press ESC.
