Routing Through Clips

There are several ways to route a cable through a clip.

Automatically Route on Drop of Clips

  1. Click Tools > Options > System Options > Routing, and select Automatically route on drop of clips.
  2. Edit the route sub-assembly and add connectors as necessary. Then start the route from one of the connectors, or select a point at the end of any route segment to define the current route end.
  3. Drag a clip into the route, and drop it into position.
A spline is added from the current route end to the nearest route point on the clip. The route end is automatically moved to the second route point of that clip. Continue the route by placing the next clip, drawing a line or spline, or selecting the end connector component. The clip is a component of the route sub-assembly.

Route an Existing Segment Through Clips

  1. Click Route/Edit Through Clip (Routing Tools toolbar) or Tools > Routing > Routing Tools > Route/Edit Through Clip.
  2. Specify route segments and clips in the PropertyManager.
  3. Click .
You can also update an existing route to travel through selected clips by selecting Re-route spline under Routing Mode in the Auto Route PropertyManager.

Pre-place Clips in the Route Subassembly

  1. Click Tools > Options > System Options > Routing and clear Automatically route on drop of clips.
  2. Edit the route sub-assembly, add connectors and clips, and position them as necessary.
  3. Start the route from one of the connectors, or select a point at the end of any route segment to define the current route end.
  4. Click Auto Route Tool_AutoRoute_RoutingTools.gif (Routing Tools toolbar) or Tools > Routing > Routing Tools > Auto Route.
  5. Select the axis of the clip.

A spline is added from the current route end to the nearest route point on the clip. The route end is automatically moved to the second route point of that clip. Continue the route by selecting the axis of the next clip, drawing a line or spline, or selecting the end connector component. The clip is a component of the route sub-assembly.

Pre-Place Clips to the Main Assembly

  1. Insert and position clips in the main assembly.
  2. Edit the route sub-assembly and add connectors as necessary. Then start the route from one of the connectors, or select a point at the end of any route segment to define the current route end.
  3. Click Auto RouteTool_AutoRoute_RoutingTools.gif (Routing Tools toolbar) or Routing > Routing Tools > Auto Route.
  4. Select the axis of the clip.
A spline is added from the current route end to the nearest route point on the clip. The route end is automatically moved to the second route point of that clip. Continue the route by selecting the axis of the next clip, drawing a line or spline, or selecting the end connector component. The clip is a component of the main assembly, not the route sub-assembly.

Managing Multiple Routes That Pass Through Clips

When you pass multiple routes through a clip, you can manage the position of each route through the clip.

To manage multiple routes through clips:

  1. In a routing assembly with multiple routes and clips, right-click a clip and open its configuration.
  2. Select the clip diameter according to the diameter of the routes you want to pass through it.
  3. Click .
  4. In the FeatureManager design tree, right-click a route and click Edit Route.
  5. Click Tools > Routing > Routing Tools > Route/Edit through Clip .
  6. In the PropertyManager:
    1. Select the clip and all the routes you want to pass through the clip.
    2. Under Arrange Routes select one of the three modes to organize the different route paths.
For the Manually offset routes mode, select an offset from the clip axis or from a reference entity, then specify the Offset Distance.
  7. To finalize the routing, use the available functions available under Routes passing through Clip.
