Settings Dialog Box - Reference Dialog

You can use the Reference Dialog page to control how the SOLIDWORKS PDM software handles references when users check out or change the state of parent files.

To display the Settings dialog box:

  1. Right-click a user or group and click Settings.
  2. In the left pane of the user's Settings dialog box, click Reference Dialog.

Check out and version access controls

Auto select reference files to get latest when checking out. When selected, in the Check Out dialog box, the software preselects the Get check box if the latest version of a referenced file is not in the local cache.

If the user does not clear the selections in the Get column of the Check Out dialog box, when the user checks out the parent file, the software copies the latest version of the referenced files to the user's local cache.

This option is enabled by default.

When cleared, the software preselects the Get check box for referenced files that are not cached locally. However, it does not select the Get check box if an older version of the referenced file is cached.

If you clear this option and select any of the following options, the software enables it again.

Always work with the latest version of files.

Copies the latest version of a file to the user's local cache when the user views or opens the file.

If the file the user is opening contains references, the software retrieves the latest version of all referenced files to the user's local cache, regardless of which version of the references are attached or if older versions are stored in the local cache.

When you select this option, the user only sees the Get Latest Version command in the short-cut menu for files and folders in Windows File Explorer.

To allow the user to retrieve older versions of files from the SOLIDWORKS Add-in, select this option and then select Enable the Get Version command in SOLIDWORKS Add-in.

This option was previously available on the Explorer tab of the Settings dialog box, under Miscellaneous.

Check out files silently without showing the check out dialog box

Prevents the display of the Check Out dialog box when the user checks out files with references. The software only checks out the selected files; the user must check out each referenced file separately.

Try to check out all referenced files when the referencing file is checked out.

When the user checks out a file with references to other files, the referenced files are also marked for check-out (if it is possible.)

If you select the option to check out files silently as well, checking out a parent file automatically checks out all referenced files.

Miscellaneous

Select child references during state change. If selected, when a user changes the state of the parent file, child referenced files (excluding drawing nodes) are selected (the check boxes in the Change State column are selected) and are included in the change state operation.

If cleared (the default), when changing state of a file, the child referenced files are not selected in the Change State dialog box.

Select references that are defined as drawing nodes during state change. If selected, when a user changes the state of the parent file, referenced drawing nodes are selected (the check boxes in the Change State column are selected) and are included in the change state operation.

If cleared (the default), when changing state of a file, referenced drawing nodes are not selected and are excluded from the change state operation.

Show "not rebuilt" warning on drawing and assemblies in need of rebuilding. Displays a warning during check-in if a part has been updated more recently than a drawing or assembly that references it

A help button in the warning displays instructions for rebuilding the affected files.

This option is enabled by default.
