Creating a Fatigue Study with Variable Amplitude History Data

You create a fatigue study with variable amplitude history data and set its properties.

  1. Right-click on the Ready_Static study tab and select Create New Simulation Study.
  2. In the PropertyManager:
    1. Under Type, click Fatigue .
    2. Under Name, type Fatigue_study.
    3. Under Options, select Variable amplitude history data .
    4. Click PM_OK.gif.
The program creates the Fatigue_study study tab.
  3. In the Fatigue_study study tree, right-click Fatigue_study and select Properties.
  4. In the dialog box:
    1. In the Variable amplitude event options box, set No. of Bins for rainflow counting to 25 and Filter load cycles below % of maximum range to 0.
This means that every cycle will be counted no matter how small its alternating stress is.
    2. In the Computing alternating stress using box, select Equivalent stress (von Mises).
    3. Under Mean stress correction, select Gerber.
The Gerber method is commonly used for ductile materials.
    4. In the Fatigue strength reduction factor (Kf), type 1. (No reduction).
    5. Select Infinite life and type 1e7 for cycles.
    6. Click OK.
