In the Simulation study tree, right-click nl_archwire and select Apply/Edit Material.
-
In the Material dialog box:
- Right-click the Custom Materials folder and select New Category.
- Right-click the newly defined category and select New Material.
-
In the Material dialog
box, on the Properties tab, do the following:
-
Set Model Type
to Nitinol.
-
Set Units to
SI - N/m^2 (Pa).
-
In the Name box,
type Nitinol Material.
-
In the material properties table, enter the following values:
- For Elastic Modulus , type 5e10.
- For Poisson's Ratio, type 0.3.
- For Initial Yield Stress (Tensile Loading), type 5e8.
- For Final Yield Stress (Tensile Loading), type 5e8.
- For Initial Yield Stress (Tensile Unloading), type 3e8.
- For Final Yield Stress (Tensile Unloading), type 3e8.
- For Initial Yield Stress (Compressive Loading), type 7e8.
- For Final Yield Stress (Compressive Loading), type 7e8.
- For Initial Yield Stress (Compressive Unloading), type 4e8.
- For Final Yield Stress (Compressive Unloading), type 4e8.
- For Ultimate Plastic Strain Measure (Tension), type 0.2.
- Type a value for Mass Density, for example 1020.
The value of mass density does not affect the results for this problem but it is a required physical property.
