Surface Texture Settings Dialog Box

Use the Toolbox - Surface Texture Settings dialog box to specify the default settings of the surface finish symbols for the current drafting standard.

You can configure requirements for surface finish to meet specifications and use of surface finish symbols on technical drawings.

As you configure the properties, the surface finish symbol on the drawing area changes in real time.

Revision

Displays the most recent revision of the standard the symbol complies with.

Symbol type

Lets you specify the symbol type.

  • Make circle in the vee small. The circle in the vee indicates that the surface must be produced by processes such as casting, forging, hot finishing, cold finishing, die casting, powder metallurgy or injection molding without subsequent removal of material. (for Elements of a Surface Finish Symbol)
  • Allow all around. When enabled, adds the allaround sign to the symbol.
  • Force tail. When enabled, it creates a tail for a symbol without text.
  • Add multiple tail. When enabled, symbols have an additional tail when the text above the tail has multiple lines. This option is not visible in the ANSI standard.

Preset lists

This part of the dialog box pictorially displays options for specifying different surface finish parameters. Parameter location in relation with the symbol show the proper location. Each button opens the corresponding dialog box for customizing the drop-down list content that are displayed in the Surface Finish dialog box.

Groups buttons that open dialog boxes for customizing the drop-down list content that are displayed in the Surface Finish dialog box.

A Displays a dialog box that lets you customize the drop-down list content for the first requirements A.

A' Displays a dialog box that lets you customize the drop-down list content for the second requirements A'.

D Displays a dialog box that lets you customize the drop-down list content for the direction of lay D.

You can customize the available lists to suit your requirements:

  • Add new values
  • Modify existing values
  • Delete values
  • Change order of values

To modify a preset value list:

  1. In the Surface Texture Settings dialog box, in Preset lists, click that corresponds to the requirement list to edit.
  2. In the Edit list dialog box, in Standard values list, select the type of value to display.
    • Roughness
    • Waviness
    • Cutoff
  3. You can do the following:

    To add a new value to the preset list:

    1. Click New.

      A new row corresponding to the new value appears.

    2. Type the new value and press Enter.
    3. Use Move up and Move down to move the selected value one position up, respectively down.

    To add an existing value to the preset list

    1. In Preset list for value, select the value after which to insert the additional value.
    2. In the Standard values list, select the value that you want to add to the list.
    3. Click Add.

    To edit an existing value:

    1. In Preset list for value, select the value to modify.
    2. Click Edit.

      You can also double-click the value to modify.

    3. Type the new value and press Enter.

    To delete a value from the preset list:

    1. In Preset list for value, select the value to delete from the list.
    2. Click Delete.
  4. Click OK.

Majority symbol

Lets you define the surface finish symbol as a majority symbol

Leader

Arrowhead Specifies the arrowhead symbol to use at the end of the leader line attached to the surface finish symbol. The drop-down lists arrowheads conforms to the current drafting standard. When you change the arrowhead specified for the current drafting standard in the Standard Settings dialog box, the arrowhead of the symbol updates automatically.
Size Specifies the default size of the arrowhead.
Surface arrowhead Specifies the arrowhead symbol to use for surface indication leaders. This option is visible only for the standards that allow surface indication leaders.
Size Specifies the default size of the surface arrowhead.
LineColor Specifies the default leader color for feature control frame symbols.

Text

Lets you specify the default text height and color for the symbol from the feature control frame.

Restore Defaults

Restores all values from the drafting standard.

Edit List Dialog Box (First and Second Requirement)

This dialog box lets you customize the entries in the drop-down list for surface finish symbol requirements in the Surface Finish dialog box.

Standard values

The drop-down list displays the type of values to show in the Standard values list. The list of values is based on the active drafting standard.

Preset list for value

Displays the list entries that appear in the requirements drop-down lists, in the Surface Finish dialog box.

Add

Adds the value specified in the Standard values list to the Preset list.

New

Adds a new entry to the Preset list and lets you specify the value.

Edit

Lets you modify the value specified in the Preset list.

Delete

Removes the specified rows from the Preset list list.

Move up

Moves the selected value one position up.

Move down

Moves the selected value one position down.

Restore defaults

Restores all values from the drafting standard.

Edit List for Direction of Lay D

This dialog box lets you customize the entries in the drop-down list for direction of lay in the Surface Finish dialog box.

Preset Value

Lists all available machining lay symbols. Use the checkbox to specify whether the symbol appears in the drop-down list for direction of lay in the Surface Finish dialog box.

Move up

Moves the selected symbol one position up.

Move down

Moves the selected symbol one position down.

Restore Defaults

Restores all values from the drafting standard.

Access
