Bill of Materials Multiple Configurations

You can specify how to list component configurations in a BOM. When multiple configurations of the same component are used in an assembly, there are some additional considerations.

  • In the Item No. column, you can list the configurations as separate entries with individual item numbers, or you can group all the configurations as a single entry with one item number.
  • In the Part NUMBER column, you can display a user-specified name, the configuration name, or the document name for configurations listed as separate entries with individual item numbers. When configurations are listed as a single entry with one item number, the Part NUMBER column displays user-specified names only.
    If different components use the same configuration name, and:
    • In the Configuration Properties PropertyManager, under Bill of Materials Options, Part number displayed when used in a bill of materials is set to User Specified Name.
    • In the Bill of Materials PropertyManager, under Part Configuration Grouping, Display configurations with the same name as one item is selected.

    then all configurations appear as a single entry with one item number.

In the part document, you need to perform certain steps to achieve the desired results:

ITEM NO. PART NUMBER Procedure
Configurations listed as separate entries with individual item numbers User-specified names - or - Configuration names - or - Document name
  1. In the ConfigurationManager, right-click the configuration and select Properties.
  2. In the PropertyManager, under Bill of Materials Options, set Part number displayed when used in a bill of materials to one of the following:
    • User Specified Name, then type a value for the User Specified Name.
    • Configuration Name.
    • Document Name.
  3. Click .
All configurations as a single entry with one item number User-specified names
  1. In the ConfigurationManager, right-click the configuration and select Properties.
  2. In the Configuration Properties PropertyManager, under Bill of Materials Options, set Part number displayed when used in a bill of materials to User Specified Name.
  3. Type a value for the User Specified Name.
  4. Click .
  5. Click anywhere in the bill of materials and click in the upper left corner.
  6. In the Bill of Materials PropertyManager, under Part Configuration Grouping, select Display configurations with the same name as one item.
  7. Click .
