Saving Sort Settings for BOMs

You can save sort settings for BOM tables with the Save current sort settings option in the Sort dialog box.

The sort settings are saved with the BOM so that you can reapply the saved sort settings without having to reselect them each time. The saved sort settings are also saved with the BOM template, which lets you propagate the sorting order across all drawings that use the same template.

Saving Sort Settings as a BOM Property

To save sort settings:

  1. Right-click a BOM table in an assembly or drawing.
  2. Set sort criteria for the table.

For example, right-click a table column and click Sort.

  3. Under Sort Save, click Save current sort settings.
  4. Click OK.

The current sort settings are saved as a BOM property.

Saving Sort Settings to a Template

To save sort settings to a template:

  1. Right-click the table and click Save As.
  2. Navigate to the location where you want to save the template.
  3. Type a File name, and for Save as type, select Template (*.sldbomtbt).
  4. Click Save.

Using Saved Sort Settings to Create a BOM

To use saved sort settings when you create a BOM:

  1. In a drawing or assembly, click Insert > Tables > Bill of Materials.
  2. Select a drawing view.
  3. For Table Template, select the template for which you saved sort settings.
  4. Complete the Bill of Materials PropertyManager and click PM_OK.gif.
  5. Click in the drawing to place the BOM.
  6. Right-click in the BOM table and click Sort > Apply Saved Sort Scheme.

Changing a Saved Sort Scheme

To change the sort scheme when a saved sort scheme exists:

  1. Right-click a BOM table.
  2. Click Sort > Custom Sort.
  3. In the Sort dialog box, select new settings.
  4. Do one of the following:
    • To replace the previously saved settings with your changes, leave Save current sort settings selected.
    • To remove the saved sort scheme from the BOM, clear Save current sort settings.
