Importing SOLIDWORKS Workgroup PDM Projects

Workgroup PDM projects can be imported into a Workgroup PDM vault or a SOLIDWORKS PDM vault. To import into SOLIDWORKS PDM, contact your Value Added Reseller (VAR).

You can import the following into a Workgroup PDM vault:

  • Projects
  • Users and groups
  • Properties

To import a Workgroup PDM project into another Workgroup PDM vault:

  1. On the source server, export the SOLIDWORKS Workgroup PDM project.
  2. Copy the backup copy of the source vault and the export.bin file to the destination Workgroup PDM server.
  3. On the destination Workgroup PDM server, navigate to <install_dir>\Vault.
    For example, c:\Program Files\SOLIDWORKS Corp\SOLIDWORKS Workgroup PDM\Vault.
  4. Double-click pdmwimport.exe.
  5. If you have both Workgroup PDM and SOLIDWORKS PDM installed, in the SOLIDWORKS Workgroup PDM Import Tool dialog box, select Workgroup PDM.
  6. Log in using a Workgroup PDM administrator account. For Vault computer, type localhost.
  7. In the SOLIDWORKS Workgroup PDM Import Utility, under Source vault, specify the location of the vault from which you exported the project.
  8. Click Validate.
  9. In the Warnings dialog box, view the projects, references, and LifeCycle States that are already in the destination vault. To save the information to a file, click Output to File, select a location and specify a file name, and click Save.
  10. To import projects:
    1. In the left pane, select Projects.
    2. In the right pane, select the projects to import and clear the projects you do not want to import. Use Select All and Clear All to make the selection process easier.
    3. If you want to import only the latest revisions, select Import only latest revisions.
  11. To import users and groups:
    1. In the left pane, select Users and groups.
    2. In the right pane, select the users and groups to import and clear the ones you do not want to import.
  12. To map source properties to destination properties:
    1. In the left pane, select Properties.
    2. In the right pane, select a Source Property and the Destination Property to be mapped to it, and click Add. The property pair is added to the Mapped properties list.
    3. To add a property to imported documents that indicates the vault from which they were reported, select Add "Original Vault" property to imported documents and specify a value for the property.
  13. In the left pane, click Options, and select from the following:
    Option Description
    Overwrite existing projects Select if you want imported projects to overwrite existing projects of the same name. Clear if you do not want existing projects to be overwritten.
    Import existing documents Select if you want imported documents to overwrite existing documents of the same name. Clear if you do not want existing documents to be overwritten.
  14. Click OK.
  15. Review the import information in the Summary dialog box. To save it to a file, click Output to File, select a location and specify a file name, and click Save.
  16. Click OK.
