Checking Files In and Out
A file is in one of two modes:
Checked out |
The file is checked out to one user for editing. Other users can open
the file for viewing and copying but cannot change it. |
Checked in
|
No user is working with this file. It is available for checkout by a
user with appropriate rights. Checked-in files open in a read-only mode. |
You can check files in and out in Explorer or from the shortcut menus
in the open dialogs in most Windows applications. You view the same SolidWorks
Enterprise PDM file information using either method.
File Check Out
To edit a file:
Right-click a file and select Check
Out.
The Contains
tab of the Preview Pane shows OK
in the Results column if the file
is available for checkout (or File is
checked out to you, File is checked
out, No Checkout Rights if
it is not).
Files that have the warning The
file is not rebuilt need to be rebuilt in SolidWorks. Click the
warning The file is not rebuilt to
display a list of references that require a rebuild. You may not be able
to check out files with warnings if your administrator has configured
blocking for warnings.
Double-click the file
to open the associated application.
Edit the file and save
it.
Undo Checkout
To cancel a checkout without saving changes:
Right-click the checked-out file and select Undo Check Out.
Click Undo Checkout
in the Undo Checkout dialog box.
If you have changed the file, Local
file is modified is displayed in the Results
column.
File Check In
Check in files after editing to make them available to users with appropriate
rights.
Until you check in a file, changes are saved
in your local version only.
To check in a file:
Right-click the file and select Check
In.
Enter a Comment
to identify the version.
The Comment
field is grayed out if the checked-in file and the latest version in the
vault are identical.
Click Check In.
The new version of the file
is associated with the current versions of its references. When this file
version is accessed, all reference versions are retrieved as if they were
attached.
File Check In Dialog Box
Information in the Check In
dialog box includes:
File Name:
The selected file and any files referenced by it. For assemblies, the
list can include drawings, parts, and sub-assemblies, and SolidWorks Simulation
files.
The related drawings can be
in the current folder or in a folder elsewhere in the vault. By default,
Enterprise PDM checks the entire vault for related drawings. The scope
of the search depends on administrative settings.
The error Cyclic
reference prevents checking a file in. Warnings such as File not Found,
Outside of the vault, or The file is not
rebuilt can block a check in if your administrator has configured
blocking for warnings.
You can click the warning
The file is not rebuilt to display
a list of references that require a rebuild.
To display this column if
it is not visible, right-click any column heading and select Referenced
as.
References reported as outside
the vault are not added to the vault when you check in the parent file.
You should place the referenced file in the same folder as the parent
file or place it in a vault folder and update the parent file to refer
to the referenced file using a fixed path.
