Embedding SolidWorks eDrawings Files in other Documents

You can embed SolidWorks eDrawings files and control in other documents as OLE objects.

To embed eDrawings files in Microsoft Office documents:

  • Drag the eDrawings file into the document.

  • Insert the eDrawings file as an object.

Double-click the file name to launch the SolidWorks eDrawings Viewer. In PowerPoint, to be able to interact with eDrawings, you must insert the file as an object.

To embed eDrawings control in Microsoft Office documents:

  1. Open a new document in Word or PowerPoint®.

  2. Click Insert, Object.

  3. Select eDrawings <version> Control for Object type, then click OK.

  4. Right-click the eDrawings Control box and select Properties.

  5. For FileName, browse to any eDrawings file, then click OK.

  1. Select EnableFeatures, then browse to the Property Pages dialog box.

  2. Set the options, then click OK.

  3. Close the Properties box.

  4. To view the eDrawings file:

    • Exit Design Mode (Word)

    • View the slide show (PowerPoint)
