Assigning Custom Properties to Route Parts

You can assign custom properties to route parts. For example, the RouteOnDrop property can control the behavior of route fittings and connectors when they are dragged and dropped onto a route.

You typically set custom properties when you are creating a custom component using the Routing Library Manager. You can also assign a custom property to a route component directly in the File Properties dialog box.

To assign a custom property using the Routing Library Manager:

  1. Open a part file, and click Routing > Routing Tools > Routing Library Manager.
  2. Follow the series of wizard pages and select the Route Type and Component Type.
  3. Add or edit CPoints to the route part and set the CPoint Configuration.
  4. Save the part in the Design Library.
  5. Click File > Properties > Custom tab.

The RouteonDrop property is listed in the Property Name column. Text is listed in the Type/Value column.

If you open the File Properties dialog box without using the Route Component Wizard, you can select RouteOnDrop from a list in the PropertyName column.

  6. Click an empty cell in the Value/Text Expression column, enter any of the following values, and press Tab. The values have the following effect:
    • Yes - Drops the component in the graphics area and generates the route stubs from the default CPoints.
    • No - Drops the component in the graphics area without generating route stubs.
    • Ask - Requires that you select CPoints to include in the route before dropping the component.

The value appears in the Evaluated Value column.

  7. Click OK to close the dialog box.
Do not modify custom properties while creating a route or after dropping a component in the route. For example, if you change the RouteOnDrop value while working in the route, the behavior is applied to the next component that you drop in the route.
